Fibre Optic Cable -- North America/US growth is due to 'non-RBOC' segments

In the past few years, RBOC FTTx deployments, especially Verizon's FiOS, have determined the US market's trend line. This has changed, with independents and CATV driving the growth in 2008. Verizon and AT&T are continuing FTTP and FTTN deployments at levels of "full production," but their demand for cabled fibre has been relatively flat from 2007 to 2008. This situation was not unexpected. The growth in cable demand among the independents, CATV, and other single-mode segments, on the other hand, appears stronger than we had expected, especially in CATV.
