Fibre Optic Cable--Asia-Pacific/ASEAN and Indian-subcontinent markets nearly doubling

China's optical cable market continues to be impressive injnany respects: size, consuming 30 million fibre-km in the first three quarters of 2008; year-on-year growth, increasing by 10 million fibre-km in 2007 and on track to grow another 5 million in 2008; and domestic production capabilities, averaging 1.3 million km of cabled fibre exports per quarter this year. But the ASEAN and Indian subcontinent market groups have outstripped China in one respect - astronomical year-on-year growth in 2008. The 10 markets grouped in the ASEAN region have consumed 83 percent more optical cable than in the first three quarters of 2007. And the eight markets in the Indian subcontinent regional group have increased their optical cable demand by 75 percent in three quarters.
