Application of Preisach model to adsorption-desorption hysteresis

We are developing mesoscopic simulation methods to model surface phenomena. Mesoscopic level links microscopic description of physicochemical systems with macroscopic observables. Recent progress in mathematical theory of hysteresis provides tools to realise such link in the realm of adsorption-desorption hysteresis. The general methodology can be also applied to other classes of surface phenomena (e.g. pattern formation as a result of coupling of elementary bistable elements). (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V.
