Ferrosilicon/US price recovery runs out of steam

After a cumulative gain of about 0.30 dollars/lb, or approximately 60 percent since April, ferrosilicon prices in the United States have retreated somewhat this month. Spot prices currently are in a range of 0.76-0.78 dollars/lb (1,256-1,289 dollars/tonne) on an ex-warehouse basis. The easing of prices can be attributed to a combination of factors. Purchasing activity has diminished after consumers booked most of their fourth quarter requirements. Moreover, market participants are anticipating an increase in domestic supply on expectations that Globe Metallurgical is planning to expand ferrosilicon production.
