The 135,000tpy Aluminij Mostar smelter in Bosnia has begun to restart previously curtailed capacity on increased demand and improved metal prices. The company cut output by a quarter this year as a result of the global economic crisis and higher electricity prices, but said it expects to restore full output in around two months. The 147,000tpy expansion of the Bandar Abbas smelter also called Hormozal is due to start operating in the southern Hormozgan Province in Iran. Around 400 million euros (570 million dollars) has been invested in the project which adopts 230 kA cell technology. The plant has been built in the city of Bandar Abbas, next to the 110,000 tpy Almahdi smelter.
