With new or expanded fibre and preform capacity ramping up, and with Japanese producers returning to full operations, fibre supply is barely keeping up with demand. As noted, industry participants do not characterize the current situation as a shortage, but delivery times have stretched into months. There have been reports that some new customers for fibre or cable were told to wait until Q4 or early 2012. On top of this, energy, transportation, and some raw material costs are up. Yet most companies contacted said single-mode bare fibre prices were not going up significantly.
