Overview of the epidemiology methods and applications: strengths and limitations of observational study designs.

This article discusses relationships between study design and results obtained, and similarities and differences between different types of studies such as observational, randomised and controlled trials. Particular reference is made to diet and disease-related research, illustrated by examples of various studies.
