Sibur Making Preparations to Boost MTBE Production at Togliatti Site

Moscow—Sibur has started the preparatory stage of a project to increase production of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) at its Togliatti facility in Russia to 135,000 t/y from 75,000 t/y. The company said it is currently setting up the construction site and developing project documents and terms of reference for a tender to purchase long lead equipment. In order to meet the feedstock requirements for the new MTBE capacity, Sibur also plans to increase the production of its isobutane-isobutylene fraction to 130,000 t/y from 105,000 t/y currently.
