Borsodchem Upgrading Chlorine Facility With Newer. More Efficient Technology

Budapest— Borsodchem has started preparations to replace its existing 125,000-t/y mercury-based chlorine unit with a more energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly membrane plant at Kazincbarcika, Hungary. The upgraded chlorine unit, along with a 195,000-t/y membrane unit that Borsodchem already operates, will allow Borsodchem to "maintain its position as the leading producer of chlorine and caustic soda in the region," the company said. The project is expected to be completed by December 2017.
