SK Selects GEA Messo Technology For Ulsan, Korea, PPS Production

Ulsan—SK Chemicals has decided on the use of GEA Messo PT's proprietary crystallization technology for its large-scale polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) production facility being built in Ulsan, South Korea (PCN, 11 Feb 2013, p 4). SK and Teijan Chemical recently agreed to establish a joint venture to develop, produce and distribute PPS resins and compounds. The venture, owned 66% by SK and 34% by Teijin, is expected to be formalized in July. Once established, the venture plans to build a PPS plant with an initial capacity of 12,000 t/y and scheduled to begin production in 2015. As PPS demand increases, the plant will be expanded to a capacity of 20,000 t/y.
