ALPLA Joins Avantium to Develop Polyethylene Furanoate Bottles

Amsterdam—ALPLA Werke Alwin Lehner has signed a joint development agreement with renewable chemicals firm Avantium for the development of polyethylene furanoate (PEF) bottles. Coca-Cola Co. and Danone earlier entered into collaborative agreements with Avantium on PEF, a bioplastics based on Avantium's proprietary YXY technology (PCN, 26 Mar 2012m p 3). The goal of these partnerships is to bring 100% bio-based PEF bottles to market by 2016.
