Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Shutting Down Niigata Ammonia Production Facilities

Tokyo—Mit-subishi Gas Chemical Co. (MGC) announced it will discontinue ammonia production at the Niigata, Japan, facility at the end of July 2015. The 132,000-t/y plant has been producing ammonia since 1957, using its own natural gas. The production efficiency, however, has been "compromised in recent years due to the declining domestic demand," MGC said. "Furthermore, the aging facilities demand repair and maintenance cost more than ever before," it added.
