Shell Considering Geismar Expansion That Would Add Fourth LAO Facility

Houston-Shell Chemical is considering an expansion of its Geismar, La., complex that would involve construction of a fourth linear alpha olefin (LAO) unit at the site. "Shell is positioning itself now for a strong chemicals future that will help us meet the needs of our customers, particularly in North America and Asia," said Rutger Beelaerts, general manager of Shell's Higher Olefins, Alcohols & Ethoxylates business. "We intend to maintain our global leadership position by investing and taking further advantage of one of our existing assets to stay competitive."
