Mexichem/Pemex VCM Joint Venture Materializes After Numerous Delays

Mexico City— Mexichem and Pemex Petroquimica on 11 Sept. entered into a vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) joint venture that was first announced in 2011 and has experienced "constant postponements" (PCN, 5 Aug 2013, p 2). The new venture, owned 60% by Mexichem and 40% by Pemex, will modernize and expand the existing VCM facility at Pemex's Pajarito complex in Mexico, to ultimately produce 400,000 t/y of VCM. The plant currently has about 200,000 t/y of capacity.
