Methanex Confirms Unit Idled in Chile

Vancouver— Methanex, in announcing its financial results, confirmed that it had idled its Cabo Negro, Chile, methanol operations in May because of insufficient natural gas feedstock (PCN, 5 May 2014, p 2) Methanex President and Chief Executive John Floren earlier this year announced the company, which was operating only one of two remaining methanol facilities at the site, was anticipating the need to idle the plant. The unit produced 26,000 tons of methanol during the second quarter of 2014, compared to 67,000 tons in the first quarter.
