Taipei—The Taiwanese government has lifted its ban on domestic companies investing in certain petrochemical projects in China, including naphtha crackers. Investment Commission Deputy Executive Secretary Emile Chang told Taipei Times that removing the barriers "was inevitable." However, he noted that the government will encourage Taiwan petrochemical companies to produce upstream raw materials overseas, such as ethylene, propylene and butadiene, while improving the quality of their downstream production in Taiwan.
