Grillo Begins Commercial Operations At MGC & JGC-Licensed DME Unit

Frankfurt-Grillo AG has started commercial operation at a new 20,000-t/y dimethyl ether (DME) plant in Frankfurt, Germany, using a process jointly owned by Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Co. (MGC) and JGC Corp. The DME technology this proprietary process is based on was developed by MGC in 1965. In 2001, MGC in cooperation with JGC began developing technology that "could drastically scale up production capacity," the companies explained in a joint statement.
