Cologne— Lanxess has developed the "Advance" program as a comprehensive efficiency project intended to counter the challenging business environment, particularly in its synthetic rubber operations, and involving reduced costs, job cuts and an optimized portfolio. Lanxess' synthetic rubber activities are experiencing a temporary weakness in demand, increased competition and volatile raw material prices. "Due to the current situation we must now take action," Axel C. Heitmann, chairman of the board of management, explained. "We are seeing first signs of stability in the market, but it is too early to say when and how quick a recovery will take hold."
