SOUTH Africa's mining production rose 9.6% year-on-year in May, boosted by a 50% increase in manganese ore output and a 30% increase in diamond production, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) reported last week. Platinum-group metals and nickel also showed year-on-year double-digit growth in May, while gold production declined by 5.8% over the same period. But the production growth slowed from the 12% reported in April, with month-on-month output falling 5.9%.
