BP said Monday a technical issue at its Clair platform in the UK North Sea over the weekend had led to an oil spill, which is being allowed to disperse naturally at sea. "The most likely volume of oil to sea has been calculated from platform data as around 95 tons," BP said in a statement. "The most recent surveillance flight already indicates significant dispersal of the oil at the surface."
