Calgary - based minnow Spartan Energy is paying C$700 million (US$518 million) to acquire light oil assets from another Calgary firm, ARC Resources, in southeastern Saskatchewan -- highlighting growing hydrocarbons production in Alberta's eastern neighbor. Spartan will get its hands on wells producing 7,500 boe/d, as well as 400 drilling locations, 30 light oil batteries, a sour gas plant and gathering pipelines. The deal will propel Spartan into the ranks of the biggest crude producers in southern Saskatchewan with output of around 20,800 boe/d.
