US Cuts Forecasts for Oil Prices, Domestic Output

US government forecasters have made big cuts in their forecasts for crude oil prices and domestic oil production next year, arguing that a persistent supply surplus will delay the rebalancing of the global oil market. In its latest Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) lowered its 2017 price forecasts for both Brent and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil by $10 to $40 per barrel. The agency also trimmed its 2016 forecasts for both grades by about $3 to $34 per barrel (related).
