Ecuador Amazon Reserves Exceed Estimates

Ecuador claims that Block 43, located in the Tiputini field, holds reserves of 1.67 billion barrels of oil, or 82% more than previously thought, according to state-owned oil company Petroamazonas. Initial estimates suggested that the block held 920 million barrels of recoverable oil with drilling there only beginning in late March. In late May, Petroamazonas announced that it had made a discovery at the controversial site, also known as the ITT Block, standing for the Ishpingo, Tiputini, Tambococha fields.
