The number of drilling rigs targeting oil in the US jumped by double digits for the first time this year as stabilizing oil prices lure operators back to the drill pad. Data from oil-field services provider Baker Hughes show that the US oil rig count increased by 11 during the week ended Jul. 1 to 341. The last time more than nine oil rigs were added in a single week was in December, when a one-off uptick of 17 oil rigs was followed by declines in 20 of the next 21 weeks.
