Industry sources are questioning Royal Dutch Shell's commitment to the stranded Egyptian gas export plant it has inherited from BG after its blockbuster acquisition of the company was formally completed on Monday. Shell takes over co-operatorship, alongside Malaysia's Petronas, of the Idku LNG export plant, which was left derelict after Cairo insisted gas feedstock should be diverted to the local market to meet surging demand in 2013-14. Egypt suffered an energy crisis over this period when domestic demand outstripped its marketed gas exports.
