Gassy Consol Reports Loss Despite Production Uptick

Low natural gas prices pushed Consol Energy to a nearly $100 million loss during the first three months of 2016, despite slashing capital spending and boosting gas production to an all-time high. Pittsburgh-based Consol posted a net loss of $97.5 million during the first quarter of 2016, a sharp reversal from the $79 million profit the company posted during the same period a year ago.
