Washington is confident that European sanctions targeting Russia's energy sector will be renewed before they expire at the end of July, a top US diplomat said Monday. "We believe the EU will extend its sanctions ... we are reasonably confident they will," Daniel Fried, the coordinator for sanctions policy at the US Department of State, told an Atlantic Council event Monday, pointing to comments made by EU foreign affairs chief Federica Mogherini last week. "Happily I don't have to consider the alternative," he added.
