EIA Again Revises 2017 Production Outlook Higher

Despite the ongoing low oil price environment, the US will remain flush with liquid hydrocarbons through at least the end of next year, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA). In its monthly Short-Term Energy Outlook, the EIA once again revised higher its forecast for 2017 US crude oil production. The agency now expects output to average 8.7 million barrels per day, 100,000 b/d higher than October's forecast. "Recent increases in drilling activity in the Permian [Basin] region are expected to lead to an increase in production in that area in 2017, partially offsetting declines in other areas of the lower 48 states," the EIA said.
