BP, Shell Investors Urged to Back Green Policies

BP and Royal Dutch Shell shareholders are being urged by campaign group ShareAction to use binding votes on remuneration next year to reject packages that reward executives for pursuing high-carbon strategies. ShareAction said Thursday that continuing to link executives' incentive structures to the expansion of new oil and gas reserves reaffirmed an outdated business model that is unsustainable under the Paris climate accord and puts the companies' long-term viability at risk. Instead it advocates a compensation scheme that works toward the Paris climate targets.
