Oil futures surged, extending their gains to a fifth session Wednesday, as the market focused on US data showing a marked slowdown in the growth of crude inventories, and a slight dip in domestic production. In New York, May Nymex WTI crude futures jumped $3.10 to settle at $56.39 per barrel. In London, the expiring May Brent crude contract gained $1.89 to close at $60.32. The June Brent contract, which will take over the front - month position Thursday, soared $3.51 to close at $63.32.
