US crude closed just below $50 per barrel on Friday after a bullish week for oil in which both of the major benchmark futures contracts gained roughly 9% on rising geopolitical tensions and expectations of a sharp deceleration in non - Opec output. Prices ended Friday's session narrowly mixed, however.
