Rising Waters Could Hit Mississippi Traffic

The US Army Corps of Engineers office in Vicksburg, Mississippi said the agency will activate emergency operations Friday as the waters of the Mississippi River continue to rise to levels not seen since 2011 after recent heavy rains. The Corps said the river is expected to be above flood stage throughout Louisiana from the Arkansas line to New Orleans. This could affect marine traffic between the Gulf of Mexico and the many refineries and petrochemical plants that line the river from Baton Rouge to New Orleans.
