US Oil, Gas Rig Count Could Fall to 1,000 by Midyear

Consultancy Wood Mackenzie said it expects the number of rigs drilling for oil and natural gas in the US to continue declining through the first half of 2015, eventually bottoming out at about 1,000 rigs by August. Weak oil prices have sent the US rig count (oil and gas combined) into freefall in 2015, plunging by over 450 rigs since the first week of January to a five-year low of 1,358 last week (OD Feb.16'15).
