Growth in global gas demand is slowing down in the face of stiff competition from cheap coal and increasingly cheap renewables, the International Energy Agency (IEA) says. The Paris-based organization on Thursday downgraded global gas demand growth forecasts to 2% annually over the next five years from the 2.3% it projected last year. It puts gas demand in 2020 at 3.926 trillion cubic meters (380 billion cubic feet per day), up from 3.495 Tcm in 2014.
