Across the ICE and Nymex futures exchanges, hedge funds and other financial players have accumulated record positions in futures and options contracts that make money as oil prices fall, a situation which has helped fuel the market's recent slide. Analysts say these positions also played a big role in reversing the biggest play in town -- bets on the direction of the price spread between West Texas Intermediate (WTI) and Brent crude.
