US Publishes Draft Rule for Arctic Oil Drilling

The US Department of Interior has published a draft regulation that would impose more stringent safety requirements on oil companies drilling in US Arctic waters. Royal Dutch Shell is the only company with plans to explore in Arctic waters off the coast of northern Alaska in 2015. However, because the rule will not be finalized until after the summer drilling season begins, it will not directly govern Shell's plans.
