The UK government look set to back plans to create a tough, new North Sea oil and gas regulator to maximize recovery of the region's remaining offshore resources. Reports on Wednesday said that UK Energy Minister Ed Davey would make a formal announcement on Feb. 24, coinciding with the release of a final government-commissioned report led by Ian Wood, former chairman of oil and gas services company Wood Group.
