Optimised membrane processes and ion-exchange are two mine water treatment methods currently under development that could replace traditional methods in future, says engineering consultancy TWP Projects principal water engineer Darryl Howard. In terms of membrane technology, research is being done on coprecipitation processes on membranes and how membrane processes can be optimised to remove finer materials, he says.
