The US has been approved as a member of the voluntary Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), a program designed to increase transparency and help fight corruption in resource-rich countries. The EITI approved the US as a participant at a meeting in Norway this week, bringing its total membership to 42 countries.
