Japanese Firms Look to North America for Supplies of LPG and LNG

Japanese firms are continuing to seek opportunities arising from the North American shale boom to meet growing domestic demand in Japan, which is already the world's biggest importer of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and LNG. Trading house Itochu's chief operating officer for energy, Masanori Toyoshima, told reporters this week the company would be making a final investment decision (FID) on its earlier announced US LPG joint venture with Vitol at the end of this month. Itochu will market its share of the output, most of which will be sent to Japan, Toyoshima said on the sidelines of the Asia Oil & Gas Conference in Kuala Lumpur.
