Exxon to Develop Major Oil Field Offshore Canada

Exxon Mobil and its partners have made a final decision to proceed with development of the 700-million-barrel Hebron oil field offshore the eastern Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Hebron was discovered more than 30 years ago by Mobil, which was acquired by Exxon in 1999. However, technical challenges, oil price volatility and disputes with the provincial government about fiscal terms delayed its development (OD Apr.4’06).
