Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) has triumphed over the rival Nabucco West pipeline after it was selected by BP and its partners developing Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field to transport the first Caspian gas into the European Union. TAP, which will take the gas from Greece's border with Turkey to Italy via Albania, is the last leg in a Southern Gas Corridor being opened across Turkey to reduce the EU's dependence on Russian gas.
