Chevron to Sell Stakes in Nigeria Blocks

Chevron is the latest international major looking to pare down its holdings in Nigeria, with the US firm confirming its plans to sell out of two shallow-water leases held alongside Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC). Chevron holds 40% stakes in OML 83 and OML 85, home to the Anyala and Manu fields originally discovered by predecessor company Texaco. NNPC's inability to fund up-front cash calls scuttled initial plans to develop the fields, which at one point were envisioned as supporting a 40,000 b/d development tapping combined proved reserves of 39 million bbl.
