Canadian Firms Push On In Kurdistan

Canadian independents Talisman and Western Zagros said this week they are pushing ahead with their respective drilling campaigns in the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) after disappointing results on their Kurdamir 3 well. Western Zagros, which has a 40% nonoperator stake in the Kurdamir Block and no other assets outside the KRG, has been especially hard hit by the Kurdamir 3, with its share price plummeting nearly 50% to C$0.80 (US$0.76) since late August. Kurdamir 3 had aimed to establish the Kurdamir Field as a true giant (OD Jun.18'13). Instead, unexpected oilwater contact had investors heading for the doors.
