Judge in Ecuador Pollution Case Against Chevron Removed From Bench

The judge who issued an $18.2 billion judgment against US oil major Chevron in a long-running pollution case in Ecuador has been dismissed from the bench amid allegations of misconduct. Ecuador's Judicial Council ruled that judges Nicolas Zambrano and Judge Leonardo Ordonez should be removed from their positions at the regional court in Sucumbios following an investigation of their lenient treatment of drug dealers. Zambrano handed down the judgment against Chevron in February of last year after taking the case over from Ordonez.
