General Electric (GE) introduced a newdesign of power plant that can adjust pro-duction quickly to allow electric grid opera-tors to better manage output changes fromwind turbines and solar panels.The largest US conglomerate said onWednesday it spent more than $500 mil-lion developing the product, which utilityoperators could use to offset fluctuationsin the grid.In a break with GE’s past practices, it hasdesigned the first version of this technologyto work on European and Asian power gridswhich use 50 hertz electricity, but not theUS, which uses 60 hertz.
