Oman is hoping to entice new interest in its upstream oil and gas sector with plans for a new licensing round, an oil ministry official said Monday in Muscat. The Ministry of Oil and Gas sent a letter to companies last week inviting them to bid on four onshore blocks: 51, 54, 55 and 58. “We have several open acreages,” Khalifa al-Hinai, a ministry adviser, told reporters on the sidelines of a conference in Muscat. He added that companies will be able to view existing data on the blocks “very soon and then the bidding round will start.”
