UK's Cuadrilla Says Fracking Should Continue Despite Link to Tremors

UK shale gas explorer Cuadrilla Resources on Wednesday acknowledged it is "highly probable" that its hydraulic fracturing in the Bowland Basin of northwest England triggered minor earth tremors on Apr. 1 and May 27, but says it should be allowed to continue work. Citing an expert report it commissioned, led by Dutch geophysicist Hans de Pater, Cuadrilla said there is little risk of a repeat because the combination of geological factors was extremely rare and would be unlikely to recur at future well sites. The report itself suggests that, were another quake to occur, the worst would measure 3 on the Richter scale.
