US dependence on imported oil fell below50% in 2010 for the first time in more than adecade, thanks in part to the weak economy and more fuel-efficient vehicles, the EnergyDepartment said on Wednesday.The department’s Energy Information Ad-ministration (EIA) said it expected the mod-erating trend in US oil-import dependencyto continue through the next decade due toimprovements in energy efficiency and evenhigher fuel economy standards.
