Brazil's government plans to allow private companies to build gas pipelines, in a move that would end state-controlled Petrobras' monopoly in the sector and help develop the country's lagging gas network. State news agency Agencia Brasil reports that the energy ministry will release new rules in two weeks allowing private firms to propose new gas pipelines. The ministry will evaluate the proposals and, if a project is accepted, launch a public tender for the pipeline's construction. The company that originally proposed the pipeline would not receive any special consideration in the bidding process.
